Some mobile network contracts do not allow the USSD service to function unless there is actual airtime on the phone.
To clarify a few questions or enquiries regarding the USSD service:
- When you need to transact i.e. make a payment, always make sure you have full signal. Cell network errors are not within our control and the transaction might have reached us even though your received an error when trying to make a purchase. Please check your balance prior to making another purchase.
- The USSD service communicates on airtime and not data.
- The USSD service needs 23c of actual airtime to transmit the data from and to your cell phone.
- The USSD service does not work on “Free” airtime. Certain cell phone networks provide “free” airtime with your contract, where other contracts include actual airtime.
- If you only have free airtime, you will need to purchase some airtime to allow the USSD service to communicate. Some residents prefer to load about R5 or even R2.
