Separation@Source at Tokara

Recycling in Midrand became compulsory on 1 July 2017, and Pikitup contracted Phambili Services to do the recycling. Pikitup decided to hold back on fining residents for not recycling, so that residents could have the opportunity and time to get into the recycling habit. Phambili Services keeps collection lists of each and every household and complex in all of Midrand of where collections are done or not done, which gets sent to Pikitup on a monthly basis. Tokara residents need to start recycling now.

Phambili gives each household a blue recycling bag and collects once a week on Tuesdays. The bags will be put into the post boxes or tied to the garden gates by the gardeners for residents to retrieve and use. All recycling goes into the same bag and please take note of the do’s and don’ts of recycling.

Please adhere to the do’s and don’ts below.
The recyclables to be placed in the plastic bags are:

  • Paper
  • Cardboard
  • Magazines & Newspapers
  • Plastics
  • Glass
  • Bottles
  • Milk and Juice Cartons
  • Cans
  • Jars

Place the full recycling bag outside your garden gate (not in the dustbin) on Tuesday mornings before 08:00 from where the gardeners will collect it and take it to the entrance. They will also update the <Recyclers of the Week> on the notice board of all the units that have recycled items.
Once collected by Phambili, they drop off new blue bags again that will be left in your postbox.

Once a week on Tuesdays, a Phambili truck will collect the bags from the entrance to be taken to the Phambili depot in Clayville.
